Gov. Donald Duke is still the Man to beat for President in 2007. PDF Print E-mail
By Adebayo Animashaun
As soon as the dust arising from the ashes of the open-space cremation of the so called TTA settled down, I rushed to publish my thesis on why his Excellency, Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State and the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu would make an excellent pair for the positions of President and Vice President (and vice versa, depending on the much touted PDP zoning system then, between North and South of Nigeria) respectively. (See, My Winning Team for 2007: Gov. Duke & Chairman Ribadu")

More than 100 days later from May 22, 2006 when this referenced article was published on the internet by some Nigerian websites, I have since received a host of emails commending the desirability of the maverick duo as the next best thing waiting to happen to Nigeria since her gainning Independence from the British Empire in 1960. In this light, what this recent article is purported for, is to further enlighten my fellow Nigerians that rather  than get caught-up in the "Power Show" (apologies to Afro beats Maestro, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti) between President Obasanjo and his vice, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku over the matter of corruption and corrupt practices, a viable candidate do exist who deserve our admiration and support, both in cash and in kind to enable him realise the lofty Idea of being the President of Nigeria come 2007.

The truth is that, there is no other candidate, so far announced, who is more qualified in all ramifications to become President in 2007 than Gov. Donald Duke of Cross River State who has been conducting himself in office in an efficient and exemplary fashion, such that his State, Cross River is adjudged by all as the "cleanest and most environmentally safe State in Nigeria" in addition to the strict implementation of both social and economic policies of its managers headed by Gov. Duke. A close observer of the Nigerian political terrane would have noticed that inefficiency in resource management as well as lack of focus leadership are the bane of the Nigerian Leaders, both of which has been proven wrong by the focused and quality leadership of Gov. Duke to his Cross River State and which he hopes to transfer unto a larger Nigerian society once elected the President of Nigeria in 2007.

Gov. Donald Duke is still the only one governor to my recollection thus far, who has not been tainted by any corrupt act, he is well educated and exprerienced first, in the private sector and now in public administration. He represents the best of the past Nigerian leaders such as Tafawa Balewa by his humility; the required present, by his youthfulness and education; and the future by his having a strong and positive conviction and seeing it through successfully. Therefore, I need not belabor the obvious with the detail achievements of Gov. Duke in office, so far, while I strongly suggest all readers to visit the web-sites of Gov. Duke for President, 2007 for more information.

Once again, I humbly call on all compatriots who desire genuine, positive change in the polity, and from incapable to capable leadership; from older generation to younger generation; from "militrician" to politician; from rulers to leaders of people to support, assist and help to spread the words of goodwill on the candidacy and eventual victory at the polls on April 2007 for the emergence of Governor Duke for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29, 2007.

There is also no doubt, despite the accusation of partiality leveled against the Chairman of the EFCC, that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is one, if not the best, of the rising positive star in Northern Nigeria in particular, but Nigeria in general. His good works has been well acknowledged by all people of honor both in Nigeria and overseas such that he was recently a keynote speaker in an United Nations' seminar on corruption in New York, USA. I still support his Vice Presidential candidacy without reservations.

In conclusion, my fellow Nigerians, let us keep our eye on the ultimate prize of the ongoing political realignment and play our own little part in ensuring that only credible, viable and capable leadership emerges in the primary elections and partake in the finale, the presidential election so that Nigeria can consolidate her recent economic achievements across the board and for the betterment of ourselves and unborn generations.

Thank you all and May Almighty God continue to Bless Nigeria and her people. Amen.

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Up! Up!! Up!!! Donald Duke for President!

Notice: The writer is not an official spokesperson/representative of either Gov. Duke or Chairman Ribadu, rather, he is a concerned Nigerian who desire a genuine and positive change in the polity. He is also not privy to any secret document of any government or political party organization. He is just simply performing his own public duty as he sees fit.

Has he declared? Theres no need getting hot and bothered if he isnt going to run, last I heard, he is interested in the Senate.

Why dont we support Utomi whos put his neck on the line (literally). And whats with Ribadu as VP? candidates from other regions are also good enough to be 'vice' (not in ATK fashion hopefully)

I swear, the way some guys are raving about Duke is giving me the creeps, if I didnt know better, Id say theres something else goin on....lol

Obviously, Duke is a hit with the girls and the guys. But lets focus on substance and not style. Utomi doesnt play the sax or wear Hugo Boss loafers but he has more leadership potential, IMHO. Duke is one of them Jekyll/Hyde people...if you get what I mean. Sly as a fox, cunning, deceptive. Who knows? maybe thats what you need to survive in Naijan politics.

Utomi can learn to play some musical instrument and speak with one of them funny oyinbo accents (like uknowwarramean Soludo), who knows, everyone may be hailing him as the next messiah. Naija!!!!

Lets see more of what 'the Don' has to offer before lining up to hail him as a 'hero'.

Welcome to NVS, brace yourself for this webiste is a like the ultimate rollercoaster ride! Enjoy the rush and fresh air!

I ask the same question. Look, I have my walleting to cough up kuza in waiting for a Duke declaration, but time is fast running out for the man to declear! We have only about 8 months left I wonder if he can mount an effective campaign in say 6 months! (to cover 36 states means he needs to get to 6 states per month!). But Naija is a country of wonders. I have also been told recently that he may not be willing to enter the mudslinging fray, but i think he needs to make his stance known and like yesterday! I trust that the owners of teh website are actively working to make him take a stance.

Barring that fact, Utomi remains a great candidate. But can he win in Nigeria? The question remains. I just missed asking him this very question when he was on his Tour 2. If he comes on tour 3. I will do my best to make it. My problem now with Utomi is the party he will contest under. I do not know if he organization cna put together an effective electoral monitoring frame work that would be necessary to checkmate the riggers from other parties.

Again, welcome, have fun and brace yourself. NVS is a Serious minded place eyo...its also a great place for laff therapy.

Good to have you here sista but be aware that it can be a cross fire sometimes. The square is rich with serious minded contributors with almost everybody an authority on his/her opinion.Right here, you learn more than anyother 9ja websites i have known. For instance,i got tutored on why the Black person is bound to be aggressive starting from a hopeless attempt to disect the deeds of my great grand fathers from a contributor that did not live in his/their times, does not come from my place and who does not even know me..lol.
Generally you would love it here.

Duke has not declared that he intends to run. When will we get tired of all these "my people begged me to run" politicians? We have tried them for so long and all they do is mess up the system. If the Egun no fit dance, should we not bring out the Gelede? Must we always face the same way with these supposedly reluctant people? Abeg. If he has not declared his intention less than nine months to the election, he is not the kind of president we want. We need someone who wants to be president and has a vision for that office. The problem is that we have so many people who want without the vision. The matter tire person jo.

Haba SS,
I beg to differ! Indeed he has not decleqred in intention to run, but I am sure he is exploring the possibility.

1. With practically every Tamuno, Dickson and Haruna saying they want to be president maybe he is wiser taking the back seat and watch the others galevant for a while as he consults his base and supporters. I mean we have Attah, Odilli, Kalu, Mararfi, Yerima, sitting governors as well as Atiku, Marwa, Utomi, Okotie possibly Buhari, Gusau and IBB also in the running. So in this situation I think some serious background politiking must be taking place before he makes a decision.

2. I am pretty sure that its not becasue he does not want the job, but who wants to run and lose? Knowing the dangerous uncertain Nigerian political situation every candidate must thread carefully. So he may be waiting for the right timing. Knowing how peculiar our politican landscape is he may be making further nationwide consultations.

3. Some politicans have indeed been reluctant servants. Take for example Gandhi's wife, Sonia. And to and extent even Mandela.

I have heard good report about Donald Duke, I wish he contest. My hope and wish is to see Pat Otomi and Donals Duke in a presidential debate, wouldn't that be a thing to watch out for. Two bright young men, that will be a great match compare to our old visionless you all know who they are so let me not waste my ink and time.

Anyway, If only hope and wishes comes easily like pure water or like burger for our people in America. I heard from a powerful source that Duke is Atiku's boy (I have this feeling this might come as a shock for some of the readers), that is why he is not declearing now. Duke's father and Atiku's father were Customs together, I also heard from this my powerful source that Atiku played a major part for him securing the seat of becoming the governor of River state. OK and going into another different matter.

However, am praying he contest all the bright young aspiring candidate have my full suport.
